My Computer Science knowledge has come in handy when doing student queries and customizing pages for the school. My other (and hopefully full time soon) job is a wedding photographer. I almost completed the art degree at Bethel - and finally found what I am meant to do! betsywall.com is my blog with some of my work. I may be a unique situation, but the computer science and art has actually worked well together. Digital photography is highly technical and it's definitely helped with learning the equipment, and being able to customize my own webpages and such. |
| Pete Wall | Computer Science | 2005 | Software Developer | I work at Symantec on a team typically of five to ten people daily, developing new code, fixing bugs, and working with other engineers. | Sue Anderson (Richards) | Computer Science | 2003 | User Experience Designer | I work at PTC. My main job is to get the design of the product as close to user-driven-design as possible. This involves three main pieces. The first is doing end user research. We talk to users, gather requirements and learn from them what it is that they need. Part of this is observing users in their workspace to see how it is that they work in their environments. The second is doing designs. We use mock-up tools to do this and collaboratively iterate on designs. Those designs are then taken to users to gather feedback, usually in the form of usability testing. We are able to iterate on designs based on user feedback. We do usability testing on both rough mock-ups and actual builds being worked on by development. We do many different kinds of usability evaluations: sit-down usability sessions with users, card sorting, feedback sessions, heuristic and cognitive walk-throughs. |
| David Berg | Math | 2003 | Director | I am the Director of the GreaterWorks Program at Youthworks!, Inc. Being that GreaterWorks was such a small organization before being incorporated in YouthWorks, I did everything from HR to Finance to Management to Training to Marketing and Recruiting. Now that GreaterWorks is actually a part of YouthWorks! many of those roles will be distributed to different departments. I'd say that I'm definitely not using the technical aspects of my math major on a daily basis, but the ability to analyze and problem solve comes in handy nearly every day! I haven't had any regrets about my course of study at Bethel |
